Heavy Duty 25 mm Nylon Tow Strap, 6 m — a 100% nylon recovery strap built for pulling a vehicle out rather than for general purpose hauling. Nylon is the right material for this job because it stretches under load and releases that energy gradually — unlike a chain or a steel cable, it does not shock-load the tow points.
Why it is worth fitting
The reason a recovery strap is made from nylon and not from webbing with a steel core is about what happens at the moment the load comes on. A chain or a cable has almost no stretch, so when the towing vehicle takes up the slack, the entire energy of the pull arrives at the tow point in an instant. That is how tow eyes get ripped off and windscreens get broken. A nylon strap stretches perhaps a fifth of its length and then releases that stored energy progressively, which smooths the jolt into something the vehicle can absorb. That behaviour is why nylon is the standard for recovery. The other essential detail is the end loops: these are reinforced 30 mm eyes, because the loop is where a strap fails first if it is stitched and constructed cheaply.
Key features
- 100% high-quality nylon webbing with rated stretch to absorb the shock of the pull
- 25 mm width, supplied in a 6 m length, with 9 m also available
- Reinforced 30 mm eye loops at each end for the connection points
- Available in green, red and orange, with high-visibility colours for roadside use
- Alternative diameters of 16, 19, 22, 28 and 32 mm available
- Packs down small, so it lives in the boot or under a seat until it is needed
- Nylon absorbs shock gradually instead of transmitting it straight to the tow points
- Intended for vehicle recovery, not for lifting or for towing on the public highway

Will it fit?
Suitable for cars, vans and light commercial vehicles. Before using it, match the strap’s rated breaking strength against the weight of the vehicle being recovered — a 25 mm nylon strap is intended for cars and light vans rather than for a fully laden heavy vehicle, and the correct width should be chosen for the load. Always attach to a proper rated tow point as designed by the manufacturer. A bumper, a suspension arm or a tie-down loop is not a tow point, and attaching to one is how parts get pulled off a vehicle.
Fitting and first use
Lay the strap out straight so it cannot snag or run under a wheel. Feed the eye loop through the tow eye and back through itself, then pull it tight — never tie a knot, which destroys the strength of the webbing. Connect the other end the same way or to the towing vehicle’s recovery point. Drape something heavy over the middle of the strap, such as a jacket or a floor mat, so that if it does snap the energy is dampened rather than the strap whipping back. Keep everyone well clear of both vehicles. The towing vehicle should take up slack slowly and then pull gently with steady momentum rather than reversing and snatching. Never use a tow strap for lifting.
Care and maintenance
Inspect the strap before every use and check specifically the stitched loops and any area where the webbing looks glazed or shiny, because that is where a strap has been overloaded. Cut or frayed webbing means the strap is finished — it cannot safely be repaired. Clean it with fresh water and mild soap after use, particularly if it has been in mud or road salt, then let it dry fully before coiling. Store it out of direct sunlight, which degrades nylon, and never leave it wet in a bag. Do not use a nylon strap for a kinetic recovery on a heavy vehicle, and do not store it next to fuel or oil.
Frequently asked questions
What weight can it pull?
That depends on the width chosen, and the rated breaking strength is the figure that matters rather than the vehicle weight in isolation. Tell us what you intend to recover and the correct width will be specified.
Can I leave it in the car permanently?
Yes, and that is the sensible place for it. Keep it clean and dry, out of direct sunlight, and inspect the loops before each use.
Can it be used for towing on the road?
No. This is a recovery strap, not a rigid tow bar or an approved towing device. For towing or being towed on the public highway, use equipment approved for that purpose.
Why nylon rather than a chain?
Nylon stretches and absorbs the shock, which protects the tow points and the occupants. A chain has almost no give, so the full load arrives instantly.
