Bluetooth 5.0 Car FM Transmitter with QC3.0 Charging — a cigarette-lighter FM transmitter that carries Bluetooth audio from a phone to an older car radio. If a vehicle has no Bluetooth and no auxiliary input, this is the simplest way to get music and hands-free calls into the factory stereo — it plugs into the 12 V socket and broadcasts on an unused FM frequency that the radio tunes to.
Why it is worth fitting
Plenty of cars on the road still have a perfectly good radio and no way of getting a phone into it. Fitting a new head unit means paying for the unit, an adaptor loom and the fitting, and on cars with integrated dashboards it often means losing the factory display. An FM transmitter sidesteps all of that: it takes the audio from the phone over Bluetooth, converts it to an FM signal, and the car radio receives it like a weak local station. The Bluetooth 5.0 connection is the part worth having over an older unit, because it reconnects to a paired phone faster and holds the link more reliably. The separate USB output matters too — running navigation on a phone drains it faster than most built-in ports can replace, and this unit both plays the audio and fast-charges the phone from the same socket.
Key features
- Bluetooth 5.0 for a stable link and quick reconnection to a paired phone
- Plays MP3, WMA, WAV, APE and FLAC from a phone, a TF card or a USB stick
- Built-in microphone for hands-free calls through the car speakers
- USB output at 5V/2.4A plus QC3.0 fast charging, so the phone charges while it plays
- Colour display showing the FM frequency, track information and call status
- Power-off memory remembers the last frequency and track position
- FM range of 87.5 to 108 MHz with a transmission distance up to about 10 m
- Voice assistant support, so the phone’s assistant can be triggered from the unit

Will it fit?
Universal — it works with any FM radio. It does occupy the 12 V accessory socket, so if that socket is your only power outlet you may want a two-way adaptor, particularly if you also run a dash camera from it. Sound quality depends on finding a clear frequency: choose an empty part of the band, away from strong local stations, and change frequency when you drive into a different area, because the band is more crowded in cities.
Fitting and first use
Plug the unit into the 12 V accessory socket with the ignition on. Tune the car radio to an unused FM frequency — somewhere with only static — and set the transmitter to the same frequency. Pair the phone over Bluetooth; the unit normally appears as a device name beginning with a BC or similar prefix. Playback then works as it would with any Bluetooth audio device. For a TF card or USB stick, insert the media and the unit will play from it directly. Store your chosen frequency in a radio preset, so you can return to it in one press when you get back in the car.
Care and maintenance
Keep the socket and the plug contacts clean, because a dirty connection causes the intermittent crackling that people mistake for a faulty transmitter. Do not pull the unit out by the cable. If sound quality degrades, change frequency before assuming a fault — interference in built-up areas is by far the commonest cause. Wipe the display with a dry cloth rather than a wet one, and avoid leaving the unit plugged in when the car is parked for a long period if the socket stays live, since that is a small but unnecessary drain.
Frequently asked questions
Will the sound quality match a wired connection?
An FM transmitter is never quite as clean as a direct connection or a factory Bluetooth system, because the audio is re-broadcast over FM. On a clear frequency it is close, but a crowded band in a city will introduce some background noise.
Can I take calls through the car speakers?
Yes. The unit has a built-in microphone and relays call audio through the car radio, so hands-free calling works without a separate kit.
Does it charge my phone while playing?
Yes. The USB output provides 5V at 2.4A with QC3.0 support, so a phone can be charging from the same socket that is playing the audio.
What if I cannot find a clear frequency?
Try at the extremes of the band, near 87.5 or near 108, where stations are usually sparser. Retune when you travel, because an empty frequency in one town may be occupied in the next.
