X-YUAN Universal Aluminium Roof Rack Cross Bars — a pair of aluminium alloy cross bars that bolt to factory roof rails or fixed mounting points and carry roof boxes, bike carriers and luggage up to 50 kg. Aluminium keeps the bars light enough to fit and remove on your own while still taking a proper load.
Why it is worth fitting
Roof bars are what turn a car into something that can actually go on holiday with four people in it. The problem with a lot of cheap bars is weight: steel bars are heavy enough that fitting them becomes a two-person job, and once they are on they stay on, whistling on the motorway for months at a time. Aluminium alloy solves that — the pair is light enough to lift into place alone and to take off again when the trip is over, which also means better fuel economy and less wind noise on the days you do not need them. The 50 kg load rating covers a roof box, a pair of bicycles or a set of luggage, and the rectangular profile is chosen over a round tube because it gives a flat top surface for the mounting clamps of roof boxes and carriers to grip properly.
Key features
- Aluminium alloy construction — strong but light enough to fit and remove unaided
- 50 kg loading capacity, enough for a roof box, bike carriers or luggage
- Fits factory roof rails and fixed roof mounting points with no drilling
- No damage to the vehicle: the feet clamp onto the rail or bolt into the factory points
- Rectangular profile gives a flat top surface so box and carrier clamps grip securely
- Limits wind noise compared with a round bar profile
- Compact 104 × 33 × 23 cm packing size, so the bars store easily when not in use
- Locks or lockable covers on most variants, so the bars are not easily removed

Will it fit?
These bars suit vehicles fitted with factory roof rails or with fixed roof mounting points. Two details decide whether they fit, and neither can be guessed: the profile of the rail (the cross-section the foot clamps onto) and the distance between the rails. Send us the vehicle model, year and a photograph of the roof rail and the correct foot pack and bar length will be confirmed. A car with a bare roof and no rails or fixing points needs a different product, because a clamp-on foot has nothing to grip. Always compare the 50 kg bar rating with the roof load limit given by the vehicle manufacturer — the lower of the two is the real limit.
Fitting and first use
Fit the bars with the roof clean and dry. On rail-mounted feet, place the foot over the rail and tighten the clamp evenly on both sides, then repeat on the other side and set the spacing so whatever you are carrying has proper support. On vehicles with fixed mounting points, remove the blanking caps and bolt the feet in, checking the thread is not cross-threaded. Push and pull each bar firmly once fitted to confirm it does not move. Recheck the fixings after the first journey, because they bed in. Load rating applies to a moving vehicle, and the load must be spread across both bars, not concentrated on one.
Care and maintenance
Check the fixings at the start of every trip where you are carrying a load, and again halfway on a long drive. Clean the rail channels and the clamps of grit at each wash, since grit in the clamp is what lets a bar creep. Wipe the bars dry after washing to stop road salt marking the anodised finish. Remove the bars when you are not using them — leaving them on costs fuel and produces noise at motorway speed. Store them flat, not leaning against a wall where they can bend.
Frequently asked questions
Will these fit my car?
They fit cars with factory roof rails or fixed mounting points. Tell us the model, year and send a photo of the roof, and the correct foot pack and bar length will be confirmed before you order.
How much can I actually carry?
The bars are rated to 50 kg, but the vehicle manufacturer also sets a roof load limit and the lower figure applies. Check your handbook before loading.
Do they fit a sunroof?
Roof rails and a sunroof can coexist, but check that the glass still opens fully with the feet fitted. On some cars the bar feet sit in the path of the sunroof.
Are they noisy at speed?
A rectangular bar profile produces less wind noise than a round tube, and noise increases with the distance between the bars. Removing the bars when unused is the real answer.
